I recently went to Barnes and Noble and used my Amazon prime account and decided to treat myself!
I try to keep my bookshelf organized–I organize it at least once a month. Thank God for my Kindle or my room would literally be filled with books and my mom, who has OCD, would disown me lol!
I have looked all over Pinterest and those helpful but time-consuming DIY tricks for organizing it better but I think I have done the most I can with such a small space.
I cannot wait until I am older and I have my own space! My entire apartment will be covered in bookshelves! A girl can dream. If you have any useful advice, I would love to hear it! I tried to organize my books by color and because I had an ego stage in middle school–like most normal people–most of my books are black.
I have always been fascinated by Celtic mythology and the history, so finding this book on sale for $9.98 urged me to try it out.
Poppy was also interested in the text and decided to read it with me 🙂
Parallel to the previous book, the collection allows me to indulge in my various fairy tales. Fantasy is my favorite genre so I cannot wait to read it.
I love mythology and Greek mythology is my personal favorite. I recently wrote a paper analyzing Hecate and her origins. I have decided to write a paper on Persephone and wanted to read another interpretation of the infamous kidnapping of Persephone.
This is a great text to study if you are interested in mythology. This focuses on goddesses from various cultures. A great read!
Let’s be honest here–the illustration is what drew me in. I love the idea of the unknown and what-ifs, so reading about various monsters of legend is fun for me to get into.
I love Faeries and love learning about them. This book is pretty informative and has charming illustrations along with it. There is a part of me that hopes faeries are real or once were and in the second novel I am currently writing, there will be faeries mentioned.
Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
You know when you enter in those Goodreads giveaways and you lose hope because 1 million enter? Well this lucky chick must have been good because I won this book. Woohoo and its hardcover! Can’t wait to read it!
the princess saves herself in this one by amanda lovelace
I love poetry! I cannot wait to start this book. Like c’mon, the title reeled me!
i love my love by Reyna Biddy
Her poetry has been all over IG and twitter, her words piercing the soul and I was pleasantly surprised when she appeared on Kehlani’s album. I cannot wait to start reading this!
I think I overdid it this time!
(Let’s not talk about the books I bought on my Kindle….haha)
TREAT YOURSELFFFFFFF PEOPLE!!!!!!! ❤
I blame the new Amazon Books store at my mall. Amazon Prime members get a discount. Woohoooooo!
As of lately, I have really gotten into poetry and I have found inspiration from within these amazing authors words.
salt by navyirah waxed
-so…powerful, so encouraging to women to love themselves, especially black women, i ate up her words with a frenzy…found peace within her words, i wish i could have had this book years ago. the new generation is so lucky to have such books like this to learn how to love themselves
chaos of longing by K.Y Robinson
-so…brutally honest about lust and searching for love not only within yourself but outside of your body, a journey of accepting your flaws, your mistakes, and embracing them. i appreciated it as a woman who searched for love in the wrong places and gave love to people who were not ready to be wholly loved ❤
dirty pretty things by Micheal Faudet
-a recent purchase, i have yet to read it but from what i have heard, it is a great read.
Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
-Currently picking up and down. I have heard mixed reviews about the book. The author has a…visceral writing style and i can imagine it is hard for people to read as she goes in depth into people’s true natures.
Don’t you hate/love when you find such awesome books for sale?
-Like c’mon, I found Romeo and Juliet for 0.50 cents! Ahhhhh Shakespeare would be doing backflips in his grave. Respect the classics!
-W.B Yeats is my ultimate favorite poet…well before he became a modernist and crazy and bitter and you know… just an awful person lol So I was truly ecstatic when I found a collection of his early work. ❤
-I am obsessed with ancient Greek anything! The Illiad is not a pleasant read though so reading the plays are bearable for me. I still cringe whenever I read Oedipus but nothing can the greek tragedies, in my opinion.
As of my 2018 poetry book purchases, I bought these two little beauties ❤
–Depression and Other Magic Tricks by Sabrina Benaim
–2 Fish by Jhene Aiko Efuru Chilombo
I am so excited to read these books! I remember watching Sabrina Benaim preform “Explain Depression to my Mother” and I was immediately hooked. Not only could I relate, her performance was so powerful and inspiring.
Check it out!
And of course, I love Jhene Aiko! Her music is so pure, soothing, and fierce all at once. I saw her in concert in 2015 and I am still touched by intimate her show was. Her ability to touch the heart of her listeners, whether young or old, is noteworthy.
Here is a video of “While We’re Young” by Jhene Aiko:
