Goodreads synopsis:

“In the next installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, follow Chaol on his sweeping journey to a distant empire.

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica—the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both—and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.”

I did not want to read this book.

I was actually pretty disappointed Tower of Dawn was a 600 + pages book instead of a novella. I love Sarah J. Maas, her storytelling is impeccable, her attention to scenery and details to fashion is commendable, and her imagination is fantastical but, this book was very  unnecessary.

Chaos and Nesryn are not strong enough characters to have their own book or chapters: that is a nonnegotiable fact. I found myself more interested in the second characters than them. They are decorations to this otherwise somewhat interesting plot.

The beginning was so slow and I sadly say, boring. The world itself is fascinating and I loved learning about the khagan, his children, and the amazing country. The fighting scences any scnce with a ruk were my favorite parts.

The book is lacking because the main characters are flat compared to the second characters. Like c’mon, Sartaq can ride a ruk! Chaos just whines and glares. Nesryn literally falls into the background unless Sartaq acknowledges her. I liked how dedicated and loving Yrene is, she’s probably the strongest characters presence but once she “fell in love” with Chaos, i’m not sure where or how, she became so consumed with him.

-Nesyrn and Chaos

What in tarnation. It was obvious to everyone, even Nesryn, that Chaol was just using her to get over Aelin. Their relationship was so unsexy and awkward it like literally hurt my stomach. I do not even know how they are even friends? Why do they even care about each other? They barely even talk in the book, Nesryn barely even talks in general. And they did not even end it properly! Like c’mon!

-Yrene and Chaol

I did not like their relationship. Like i get it, Chaol is tormented about his past and about being paralyzed and Yrene doesn’t trust Chaol because her people were slaughtered by his but there was just so much unhealthy tension between them. I feel like a lot of the relationships or pairings in the books are brimmed with tension but it just seemed so forced and unnecessary. i feel like Maas literally forced them together so Chaol can move on from Aelin and Nesryn. Like i get it, Chaol is attractive but I feel like that’s about it. I do not even know why any one liked him.

-Nesryn and Sartaq

Ugghhhh! I guess there relationship is the most believable. It is slow building and about mutual respect and trust.  I think Sartaq is a pretty great guy but there is no flaws about him, which is unbelievable. He’s mister congeniality and I feel like I know nothing about other than that he doesn’t really like his siblings, he rather like with the rukkin, and that he knows how to braid his hair. Nesryn is just so utterly boring. Yes, she is brave and knows how to shot arrows well but there is just no spark in her chapters. There is nothing about her perspective that jumps out of the page. She is so flat. Which is sad because if written better, she could have had a strong presence in the story rather than a backseat. And Sartaq and Nesryn did not even hookup. Is Nesryn destined to be forgotten or trapped in the friend zone?

-What’s coming Next!

So muchhhhhhh is going to happen in the next book!

o many secrets! So many reunions! Since discovering about the true evil in the world, the Valg Queen , all the characters are racing to join the fight. What’s going to happen to Aelin? Knowing Maas, who just loves tortured characters, Aelin is going to suffer a looottttttt more, if that is even possible.

I am frusturated because this book stalled the excitement for the next book. It was literally a filler. You cannot just have such a crazy cliffhanger than put it on pause. I am a little disspainted but I still did enjoy the book.
