Poetry, Short Poem

take a bite

take a bite
and taste the sweet
tang of truth.
tart on the tongue,
each bite
takes you deeper
and deeper
into the web of lies.
worming your way
through
the lump of flesh,
the pile of excuses
that once tasted
like apples.
ripe with knowledge;
the crack of
your first bite,
the clink
of gnashing teeth,
the key to the
truth–that it
was bruised at the surface
the entire time.
