Goodreads summary:

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward returns as her thrilling, original spin-off series set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues! When a brooding vampire warrior-in-training teams up with a quick-witted aristocrat to solve a deadly mystery, the only thing more dangerous than their mission is their undeniable attraction.

I like the Legacy series because it allows us to see more snippets of the Brothers and their shellans. I have grown fond of the trainees and to be honest, if there were not sections of the original brothers in this series, I would probably be more reluctant to read it.

This particular installment held my interest immediately. The cover is hot, Axe is hot and tortured, and Rhage remains as…deliciously awesome as usual.

Axe-Elise

I was actually surprised and I thought I was not going to like their romance. I was expecting Elise to be this boring, whinny rich girl but she is a nerd who is striving for her doctorate and I totally loved that. Elise is also struggling to break away from her family’s expectations and Axe helps her as she finds herself.

It is interesting to observe how Elise struggles to find independence, similar to what Paradise also endured. Unlike Paradise, Elise’s strength is academics and I found that admirable.

Axe reminded me a lot of Qhuinn–maybe in looks as well. They both got the dark hair, leathers, tattoos, and piercings, so it was hard not to like him in that sense. I felt for Axe’s heartbreaking story and I like how in this series, Ward interjects the Commoner’s perspectives, which has been growing since The King.

Mary-Rhage(Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth love-child) +Bitty

My favorites! Mary and Rhage cannot do wrong and it was so heartwarming seeing them and Bitty be a family. Bitty is literally a little Rhage–they watch Deadpool together and like the same stuff and I get all teary eyed when Rhage and Mary realize how far they have come and they still love each other.

(If you have no idea what I am talking about–read my review of the The Beast!)

THE PRESSURE WITH BITTY. OMG! I was literally stressing with them and I am unsure if Ward is a master of giving me a heart attack or maybe I just love Mary and Rhage so much but my heart literally broke as they struggled to see if they had to give Bitty up.

Rhun, Bitty’s uncle, seems like a sweet guy and I liked how Ward uses not only him but Axe as we navigate through the Commoner world in the series. We are normally dealing with the glymera so we never get to hear the heartbreaking stories of the struggling commoners.

Honestly, towards the end of the novel, I cared more about Mary and Rhage because their story was building. Yes, I felt bad for Axe but I was more worried about the OG BDB than him.

MORE HOTNESS COMING (fingers crossed)

There has been a lot of passionate gazing and subliminal and not so subliminal  hints that some more romance in brewing in Caldwell and I hope it all comes true. Peyton is still a mess but I feel like Novo will set him straight–which should be hot. Bada$$ Novo and preppy-wounded Peyton already sounds like something I will stay up all night and read.

AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO SAW SAXTON OOGLING RUHN?!!!! Saxon is the OPPOSITE of subtle when it comes to whom he wants and I think it’s gonna be category five hot how cute him and Ruhn are going to be.

Overall,  great read and I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL XCOR’s story will told in The Chosen. Ah!!!
