The Young Elites-Review

The Rose Society-Review

The thrilling finale to the New York Times bestselling Young Elites series from “hit factory” Marie Lu.

There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.

Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all that she’s achieved.

Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds when a new danger appears, putting not only Adelina at risk, but every Elite and the very world they live in. In order to save herself and preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger.

Bestselling author Marie Lu concludes Adelina’s story with this haunting and hypnotizing final installment to the Young Elites series.

Truly loved this book–full of pain and regret!

The Midnight Star is not as long as the other books but I like how it does not drag along but gets right to the point. A year later, Adeline is the Badass Queen  but has power gone to her head? Her powers have grown as she sets a campaign to literally take over the world, killing rebels and learning how to trust the people around her. She is ruthless agasint the unmarked–setting laws for the marked to be the ones to be in charge.

“I clench my fists and fling an illusion of pain across her body. ‘I am the nightmare.’”

Of course, I am all for the marked getting their justice but I feel like Adeline is just setting people up to hate her even more. But we must also factor in her dwindling sanity. Also, the charming Magiano has loyally stuck by Adeline’s side. His love for her has kept Adeline sane yet Adeline has been unable to accept him fully yet.

“Everyone knows that openingly showing any disrespect for Magiano means instant death at my hands.”

All the Elites are beginning to deteriorate. Adeline is becoming paranoid, the whispers and illusions are causing her to become mad, Magiano is becoming crazy, Sergio cannot produce his own water, and finally Violetta, who had run away to Rafale, shows signs of dire death.

“My hear skips a beat, aching in sudden sadness. ‘And what about the girl you once sat beside, on that night? Do you miss her too?’ “She is still here,’ he answers. ‘That his why I stay.’”

With the news of the decline of Violetta’s health, Adeline finally begins to believe the rumors of the Elite’s demise. Forced to unite with the people who have betrayed her and hurt her, she once again does not receive any sympathy. Poor thing!

We learn that the Underworld has been leaking into the mortal world. The world is becoming corrupt and the Elites are dying. The Elites also learn that they received their powers from the gods.

Forced to travel to the Underworld to save the world, a few heartbreaking deaths occur 😦 I will not reveal because that would be cruel.

When they travel to the Underworld, they have to return their powers and Adeline is at first reluctant but eventually does so. She makes a big sacrifices, hoping she can undue all the wrongs she has done.

The ending is sad–tears will fall. I do not want to spoil it but it sets everything right!
