Ms. Singh must have known I have been having withdrawals from her writing because Wild Embrace was just what I needed! Ms. Singh just has a way about her writing that will keep me hooked until every character in the Psy-Changelings series is mated and every angel and vampire in in her Guild Hunter series is together. Wild Embrace is a fun read, separated by four stories: “Echo of Silence”, “Dorian”, “Partners in Persuasion”, and “Flirtation of Fate.”
-Echo of Silence
When I read the synopsis, I was especially excited for this story. Judd Lauren stole me heart when it comes to strong and silent Psy so I was excited to be introduced to Stefan. The story revolves around Tazia and Stefan, both working on Alaris, an underground compound that I am not totally sure what it is but they are connected with BlackSea. We learn of Tazia’s extremely traditional family and her loneliness due to her refusal to an arrange marriage by her father. It was heartbreaking seeing Tazia so alone but in Stefan, she finds a kindred soul. I liked Stefan’s story–it struck me! He was showing signs of becoming an Arrow teleporter when a landslide killed his family. The trauma “damaged” him as a child and still haunts him as an adult. The ending is loving and little cheesy, but still a fun, light-hearted read!
Everybody’s favorite blonde has his own story and my heart aches as we are introduced to a younger Dorian who struggles to accept his latent-ness. But through the love and support of the former alpha Lachlan, family, Lucas, Mercy, Vaughan, and Clay, Dorian learns how to adjust. The next few chapters are tear-jerkers! We are transported to back in Hostage to Pleasure when Dorian finally shifts in front of Shaya and Dorian decides to surprise his packamtes. Ugh! Tears! It was so heartwarming as Dorian shows Lucas, Mercy, and his family. How much love they have for him and so much pride! I feel like one of the pack sometimes!
-Partners in Persuasion
I knew right off the bat that this story was either going to be reallyyy good or bad but like all Ms. Singh works, she does disappoint. Throughout her series, we have dealt with the struggles between subs/doms (that just sounded so sexual), prime example, Indigo and Drew. But in this case, Felix is a submissive wolf and Desiree is a dominant leopard who can potentially be a sentiel.
Felix–such confused emotions I have for him. He has been spurned in the past when he tangled with a dominate wolf who used him for sex and kicked him to the curb. Learning how subs/doms interact was pretty interesting from this particular perspective. We always see men taking the lead and pursuing, it was sweet watching Dezi claim her man and be unafraid! There were some bumps on the road due to differences of dating rules within their species–but they obviously cared about each other and made it work. The romance is careful, patience, and Felix is so sweet I just want to put him in my pocket.
-Flirtation of Fate
Finally we get to see the flames flare between Kenji and Garnet!! Always flirting with each other during comm-calls, we see the reason behind the tension. Kenji and Garnet have a past– a sweet one that turned sour. Garnet is convinced that Kenji is a player who refuses to change his ways and Kenji is determined to prove her wrong. In the midst of this tension, they must set their differences aside as they deal with a murder mystery within the den. Once again, the idea that changelings are not perfect are brought into light. The series has always emphasized that changelings are pretty knit-tight and do not always submit to their more selfish/human tendencies. But like the in Caressed by Ice and the big surprise in Allegiance of Honor, we learn that changelings can do evil things. I liked the mystery element of the story– I was kept on the edge of my seat and was just as curious! Was it a crime of passion or is there more behind it? Luckily, Kenji and Garnet work their differences and accept each other’s love. Their relationship is cute and heartwarming–a great end to the novellas.
5 stars of course– I recommend if you are having Singh-withdrawal!
