Reaver (Lords of Deliverance #5; Demonica #10) by Larissa Ione
SPOILERS FOR DAYZZZZ
“WARRIOR OF HEAVEN
Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he’s agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before…to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.
ANGEL OF HELL
Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she’s been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan’s lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld’s darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel’s blood…”
Have you ever read an amazing series then got swept up with your life/books/chocolate/school, abandon a series ,and then deeply regret it as you fall in love with it again? No, well I did haha! I started reading Larissa Ione paranormal romance series a few years ago and I loved the sexy, sassy characters, their tragic stories, and the whole Heaven/Sheoul concept–action-packed fun! Last night, I was scrolling through books on my Kindle and ran across Reaver and for the past like 10 hours, finished it! (Yes, I am beyond sleepy) Reaver reminded me why I loved these books and after I finish this review I am going to read the next book Revenant!
I loved the two characters Reaver and Harvester! I have always found Reaver and Harvester interactions hilarious and steamy–Harvester giving Reaver all types of sass and Reaver pretending he did not like it. Reaver is this angelic-badass-badboy-who is not afraid to break the rules and Harvester is a woman who has had to make difficult decisions to keep a promise. It was heartbreaking seeing the normally confident Harvester vulnerable when she was being tortured and learning of her past–Yenrieth taking revenge on her. And with Reaver, we get a front row seat to the revelation of his memories resurfacing as Yenrieth, the aspiring Radiant. Both character struggle with difficult decisions yet they learn to accept the mistakes they made in the pasts and strive to move forward. Also, I love how Reaver accepts his role as father to the Horsemen! He all but melts when Limos calls him Dad and his understandable righteous anger when his family is threatened is amazing! When Reaver was introduced in the beginning of the Demonica series, he was lost, drifting, and unsure with his life, so it is heartwarming to see him with his family.
Everyone hates Harvester–which is understandable. Unbeknownst to everyone but a select few, she has been a spy for Heaven to protect the greater good but in the process, has been corrupted by the evils she has witnessed and endured. Secrets are revealed and I am happy that Harvester’s good deeds were acknowledged and she is an amazing, loyal character that gets the love and respect she deserves.
The discovery that they are in fact Verrine and Yenreith, two angels who share a complicated past was a pleasant surprise. The past and present intertwine as the people who have changed drastically over five thousand years clash together. For two people who once deeply hated each other, it is inspiring that they were able to move past it.
If you want a fun, playful read with a twist of tragic, steamy characters– I definitely recommend this series!
